Target Audience
This activity is intended for US-based family practice physicians, primary care physicians, internists, physician assistants, pediatricians, and nurse practitioners involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with influenza.
Learning Objectives
After completing the CME activity, learners should be better able to:
- Assess the utility of point-of-care testing methodologies in the primary care setting as part of diagnostic best practices aimed at reducing unnecessary testing and the use of ineffective treatments
- Interpret evidence from clinical trials assessing antiviral agents with different mechanisms of action and abilities to reduce viral shedding approved for the treatment of influenza infection
- Select antiviral agents as recommended in clinical practice guidelines for patients with normal and low risk for influenza infection as well as those at low and high risk for complications of influenza
- Evaluate the utility of antiviral treatment for influenza postexposure prophylaxis
