PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This educational enduring program will assist healthcare providers who care for adult patients with moderate-to-severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with type 2 inflammation in reducing exacerbations and preventing hospitalizations and emergency care visits. This program will help learners to better align treatment regimens with evidence-based COPD management guidelines, identify potential therapeutic targets, and summarize evidence-based best practices to optimize specialty and multidisciplinary care referral. Last, this program provides learners with current clinical evidence on the use of biologic agents in patients with moderate-to-severe COPD.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of primary care and family physicians, as well as other members of the multidisciplinary care team who work to optimize the management of adult patients with moderate-to-severe COPD.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Recognize aspects of type 2 inflammatory pathways to inform potential therapeutic targets for COPD in appropriate patient populations
- Summarize clinical data from early experiences with biologics targeting mediators of type 2 inflammation for the treatment of COPD in appropriate patient populations
- Facilitate timely referral to COPD specialists, when necessary, as well as coordinated care through participation in multidisciplinary teams
