PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This enduring activity will cover ways in which the healthcare team can minimize the risk for hypoglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes. Specifically, our aims will be to review the consequences of hypoglycemia; discuss approaches to assessing symptomatic and asymptomatic risk of hypoglycemia; assess anti-diabetes therapies and how to balance their safety and efficacy to reduce hypoglycemia; and evaluate nonpharmacological strategies for lowering risk.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This educational activity is intended for primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, certified diabetes educators and other HCPs who care for patients with diabetes.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Review the short- and long-term consequences of hypoglycemia as it relates to patients and providers.
- Determine how various insulin formulations may increase or decrease the risk of hypoglycemia.
- Discuss approaches to assessing the risk of symptomatic and asymptomatic hypoglycemia in individual patients.
- Evaluate nonpharmacological strategies for minimizing the risk of hypoglycemia.
