PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This activity provides a practice-based learning experience for dermatologist and primary care physicians regarding the assessment and treatment of alopecia areata (AA). By participating in this Simulation Center, learners will observe an interaction between a physician and their patient with AA and will test their knowledge of diagnosis and management at key decision points along the way. The burden of AA and its associated comorbidities will be highlighted, and you will learn strategies to effectively address the psychosocial impacts of this disease with your patients.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This educational activity is designed to meet the needs of both US and OUS learners, including dermatologists, dermatology NPs, dermatology PAs, and PCPs.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Describe the clinical rationale for novel systemic therapies currently under development for the treatment of patients with AA
- Determine which patients are candidates for novel systemic therapies currently in development
- Apply the assessment of the extent of scalp hair loss and other factors—pattern and location of hair loss, nail involvement, chronicity, quality of life, age of onset, response to previous therapies, patient priorities—to treatment decisions
