PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This online educational activity targets essential elements of the pearls of diagnosis and management of patients with α-thalassemias. Enhance your ability to evaluate the genetic and molecular pathophysiology of the various members of the α-thalassemia family and associated clinical presentations by genotype, as well as the risks for acute and chronic complications. After the timely, accurate diagnosis of α-thalassemia is made, assess the utility of traditional management strategies and the impact of emerging disease-modifying pharmacotherapy for the management of patients with α-thalassemias.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of hematologists involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with α-thalassemias.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completing this program, attendees should be able to:
- Evaluate the genetic and molecular pathophysiology of the various members of the α-thalassemia family, the heterogeneity of clinical presentation attributable to underlying pathophysiology, and the risks for acute and chronic complications
- Facilitate timely accurate diagnosis of α-thalassemias
- Critique the utility of traditional management strategies for patients with α-thalassemias
- Model treatment algorithms that include emerging pharmacotherapies for the management of patients with α-thalassemias
