PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Along with an innovative whiteboard animation, this enduring educational activity focuses on addressing disparities in oncology testing, including racial disparities and access barriers with the goal of improving cancer health equity across all communities. Learn more about the prevalence of disparities in oncology testing in minoritized communities, identify key contributing factors to disparities seen in oncology testing, evaluate the strengths and limitations of diagnostic oncology tests, and incorporate strategies to mitigate cancer care inequity to improve outcomes within all communities.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for oncologists, pathologists, and healthcare professionals involved in the care of people who undergo screening for cancer.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Understand the prevalence and impact of racial disparities in oncology testing, including disparities in access to advanced diagnostic techniques such as immunohistochemistry (IHC) and next-generation sequencing (NGS).
- Identify key factors contributing to disparities in oncology testing, including socioeconomic factors, systemic biases, and geographic barriers, and their implications for patient outcomes.
- Explore strategies and initiatives aimed at advancing health equity in oncology testing, including community outreach programs, patient navigation services, and policy interventions.
- Evaluate the role of IHC and NGS in diagnostic oncology testing, including their respective strengths, limitations, and emerging trends in personalized medicine approaches.
