PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Adding a blood-based multi-cancer early detection test to current cancer screening tests could potentially detect four times more cancers than current screening tests alone. By some estimates, with a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test, more than 70% of cancer cases will be identified by screening and it may be possible to reduce all-cause cancer deaths by up to 26% within 5 years of availability. Moreover, research has shown that adding an annual MCED blood test to standard of care cancer screenings could potentially reduce late-stage cancer diagnoses by more than half in the US population aged 50 to 79 years.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of primary care clinicians, oncologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists to ensure confidence in discussing multi-cancer early detection tests for population-based screening.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing the CME activity, learners should be better able to:
- Summarize deficiencies in cancer screening that create a need for multi-cancer early detection (MCED) technologies.
- Analyze clinical data clarifying the accuracy of MCED testing as part of full diagnostic process.
- Evaluate key points for primary care clinicians to discuss with patients interested in MCED testing.
