PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This enduring activity is focused on the care of patients with HIV.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for US-based primary care providers involved in the management of patients living with HIV infection, such as internists, family physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing the CME activity, learners should be better able to:
- Discuss the mechanism of action of non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) and clinical trial data on the safety and efficacy of each agent in the class
- Describe the increased risk of cardiovascular disease in HIV-infected patients and the effect of different antiretroviral therapies on lipid profiles
- Review recommendations for the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) during pregnancy to reduce perinatal transmission
- Evaluate methods to personalize treatment regimens and improve patient compliance to antiretroviral therapy (ART) in HIV-infected patients
